Installation tips

The most important thing is that this mount comes assembled, it means you just need to take it out if the box and that is it. No assembly required.

If you are an experienced user of wall mounts. you will need no more people to help you to install it. This mount articulates easily and over a range which exceeds the mounts.

Tip: don’t forget to drill the studs before  you try driving the lag bolts which are used to secure the mount to the wall. Use the outermost holes on the mount — they are 16 inches apart. It usually coincides with the distance between the centers.

Caution: if there is drywall at your home, when mounting you should always try to find the studs. Only after this your mount should be screwed to the wall studs.

Sure, your TV may not be as heavy as you can see, but when it comes to force that is pulling away from the wall, so unsupported drywall shall not handle this. The forces which are generated by moving and adjusting your TV over and over. To conclude, the drywall will not provide the support your TV needs. Keep that in mind while installation.

There can be other solid material to be mounted on, such as solid wood or concrete.  Mounting on concrete usually requires hammer drill bit and hammer drill. These should be purchased additionally. For this you may use Tapcon concrete screws. You can screw them into the drilled holes and they will provide strong support.

As for wood, it is always much easier to attach wood wall studs with wood screws. Something to mention: the studs may not be exactly 16” apart.

In some special cases, you will probably need centering. It may need additional materials. The mounting frame is about 17”. Take it in account.

Like a previous model, it may need a helper for you to install this mount.

Another benefit is hiding the wires. You can do much of the wires before the lift-installation. When the mount adjusts, you have enough space to place wiring after your TV is installed.

The more your TV is adjusted, the more wall clearance is required. It also requires you to pull the bracket forward.

To avoid a return, try to obtain a mounting template from the manager before the purchase.

What to Consider When Buying Full Motion TV Wall Mount – Buyer Guide

At the first look, you may see like all TV wall mounts are similar. However, they come fitted with features that make them different from one another. These features may include TV size compatibility, tilt range, and weight capacity.

It is always important to first buy your TV before thinking about the TV wall mount to buy so as to ensure a perfect match. This is because some mounts are only compatible with TVs up to a specific weight and size.

In order to find the best full motion TV wall mount, consider the following aspects.

Design Mobility

For full motion TV wall mounts, mobility is a must factor to look out for. You must consider to what extent, pan, and tilt the mount does. Full motion TV wall mount offers a wide range of viewing angles right from the setup.

How to choose full motion TV wall mount // Full motion TV wall mount buyer’s guide

Full motion mounts come with an arm option that extends the TV out from the wall than a normal mount would. This is ideal, especially if you intend to mount your TV in a corner or you need to have access to devices, cords, ports, or any device you intend to attach behind the TV.

Size of TV

Obviously, this is one factor that must be considered. Mounts come in wide ranges to handle a variety of TV sizes. Some can handle TVs of up to 98 inches while some can hold from 20 to 40 inches among other.

Apart from the size of your TV, also keep in mind that some full motion TV wall mounts fit curved TVs better as compared to others, even as they seem to be fading away.

Weight Capacity

TVs are gradually increasing in size of the screen yet they are becoming lighter than you might expect. For instance, a 55-inch flat screen LED TV on average can weigh between 50 to 75 lbs.

However, this will also depend on the brand and model. An affordable full motion TV wall mount comes with the capacity to support TVs of up to 75 lbs while expensive ones could hold TVs of up to 165 lbs.

While out there shopping for a TV mount, the most important thing is to ensure you match the weight of your TV with the amount that the wall mount will be able to support.

Be sure to spare some weight since you may want to add some accessories that might pull the entire system down.

Vertical Movement

Full motion TV wall mounts come with a wider range of vertical movements. Some will only move as low as 11 inches vertically while others can move up to 29 inches at most.

How to choose full motion TV wall mount // Full motion TV wall mount buyer’s guide

The greater the vertical distance on the wall mount you intend to buy the better. Consider how much vertical movement you will require in order to get the TV to the appropriate eye level.

Swivel

Different full motion TV wall mounts feature different swivel levels to the right as well as to the left. Some will feature a swivel of 15 degrees to either side while others can swivel between 30 to 60 degrees of range to allow for a wide selection of seating positions.

In order to get the right swivel angle, consider factors such as when you are watching your favorite program from the far side of your seating room or even preparing meals in a kitchen that is on the other side of the house.

Supposing you have open sight lines, you can easily swivel your TV appropriately to watch it while doing your kitchen stuff.

With an arm or without an arm?

There are two ways of hanging your TV. Some wall mounts have an arm to keep your TV out several inches from the surface of the wall. Other wall mounts may be placed in the way when the TV is close to the wall (like a picture frame).

Look at the place you are going to hang your TV and decide what method is better for you and your home.

Tilt

If you are going to mount your TV on a raised wall, the tilt is probably something to look for. The tilt will bring your TV down, especially when mounted over the fireplaces.

How to choose full motion TV wall mount // Full motion TV wall mount buyer’s guide

Even though it is a non-factor when it comes to full-motion mounts, it is not wrong to have a few degrees tilt angle just in case you will want to tweak the watching angle a bit.

Installation

When it comes to installation, some mounts can prove to be tricky. As such, this is not something you will want to fail in since it will compromise not only the watching experience but also the security of your TV.

How to choose full motion TV wall mount // Full motion TV wall mount buyer’s guide

However, some mount models come with post-installation adjustments to make sure the TV mounted is perfectly aligned.

Another tip for installation is hiding the wires. It will improve the look of your system because once your TV is mounted on the wall, any wires from players or consoles will be really noticeable. Think about purchasing tubing or some other device to hide the accessories which are coming from and to your TV.

What are the walls made of?

You are lucky if the walls at your home are drywall ones. Usually all TV wall mounts are compatible with this type of walls. It means you have everything needed (bolts and anchors) for installation.

It could be a bit more difficult to install the wall mount on a plaster or masonry surface. It is obvious that you will need stronger hardware. Certainly, you may not have everything you need in the wall mount box. Anyway, it is possible to find the tools in any hardware store near your house.

It doesn’t matter what type of material the walls are made of, all televisions have a standard mounting patter — VESA (Video Electronics Standards Association — the body that decided to use this generic pattern). So, it is going to be easy to attach to your TV whichever wall mount you have.

Sturdy Construction

The TV mount you intend to buy is going to support one of your most expensive investments. As such, it is important to consider a strong robust constructed wall mount.

Sturdy full motion TV wall mounts feature a thicker metal that is fabricated from a single piece.

Cost

The cost of a TV mount you intend to buy will also play a great role in the kind of mount you will buy especially when working on a tight budget.

We recommend that you focus on models that come with the best features and specifications but at an affordable price.

Conclusion

As you can see, finding the best full motion TV wall mount that is right for mounting your brand new TV can be hectic. However, by following the buyer’s guide that we have provided, we hope that your search can be a little easier.

  1. I just bought an LG 55- inch TV and I want to hang it in my living. This is the first time I’m doing this by the way. But I have scoured Amazon for a decent TV mount that is not going to burn my pocket and I cannot decide which one to buy. Some of them have fantastic reviews but which one is the best?

    • Why don’t you jot down a list of five highly-rated TV mounts that appeal to you and then pick one that you feel confident that is most suitable or will serve your needs. I would recommend the Mounting Dream MD2380, which is in my opinion, budget-friendly when you compare it to other models. It’s a great TV mount as its sturdy and can hold TVs that weigh up to 99 pounds. And it is also easy to install although you are going to need an extra person to help you with the installation.

  2. The Wali TV mount worked for me. And it is hard to get a mount with an articulating arm at that price. And if you do, then there is something very wrong with the mount. Although it is not a heavy-duty mount, it is quite sturdy. But it definitely is not the best choice if you have a TV that weighs 55 pounds.

It does tilt upwards and downwards, and it extends. The extension arm, however, is lean as it retracts less than 4 inches from the wall, which is not a problem if your wall space is not big. But ideally, it is a sturdy mount that does a good job.

  3. I bought the Echogear tv wall mount and it is very solid and easy to install. It holds my 75-inch tv with ease and it also easy to adjust and tilt. I especially love that I can tilt it as much when there is a sunshine or glare issue. The bracket is well-engineered but it’s quite heavy. In fact, the mount itself is heavy. You need an extra pair of hands to install it.
While I would recommend this mount to anyone looking for a quality and affordable mount, if you have a high-end TV, it’s better to get a retractable or motorized mount.

  4. I got myself the Husky TV mount and I’m happy with it. The only problem I had was finding the studs behind my wall. This was my first time installing a TV mount and despite using a stud finder to locate the studs, I could not find any. I had to use a hollow wall anchor, which I had to first figure out how to set it up. The whole installation process was a bit of a pain, but not because of the fault of the mount.

  5. I was happy that I was able to find a quality TV mount on Amazon at a reasonable price. But only to find out that I bought the wrong TV mount. Problem: I was not keen enough to check the VESA specifications of the mount, which apparently have to be the same as that of your TV. Who knew. Ended up buying another TV mount but this time the right one.

  6. My 50-inch TV fell off the wall and the screen broke. I had just bought the TV and unfortunately, I had to get another one. So the problem was, I attached the screws to the mount studs incorrectly. Big mistake. I recommend you get a professional if know nothing about installing a TV mount especially if you are installing it on a wooden or drywall. It was a costly mistake for me.

  7. What is the most important feature or features I should look for when choosing a motion TV mount?

    • The size of your TV is obviously important. Get a TV mount that is capable of supporting the size and weight of your TV.

      Other features include:
      – VESA specifications – check for both the TV and TV mount
      – Swivel, tilt, and vertical movement capabilities
      – Wall type – is it a dry, wooden, or brick?
      – Sturdiness and durability
      – Price

  8. Great article. I install TV mounts for a living and one piece of advice I would like to give guys is that if you have never installed a TV mount before, get a professional to do it. Many times I get called because of bad installations. Either the stud spacing is all wrong or the person simply bought the wrong mount.

Most people avoid hiring a professional for the installation because they think it’s costly. But when you consider how much you paid for your TV, you might think twice about installing a TV mount yourself.

  9. How much does it cost to install a TV mount?

    • This depends on the size of the mount. Of course, the bigger the mount, the more expensive it will be to install because of its size and weight. The mount type is also a key factor. Those with tilting capabilities and articulating arms cost more to install than those that don’t have these features.

Other factors that may add to the installation cost include:

      – Wall type
      – Wire concealment
      – Additional mount accessories

You can always try and get different quotes from different companies. That way you can choose one that is within your budget. The bottom line is, the amount it would cost you to hire a professional for the installation might not be as much as buying a new TV and possibly another TV mount if things go wrong.

  10. I want to buy my mum a flat-screen TV, although I have not made up my mind what size to buy. But thank you for sharing this information. Honestly, I know nothing about TV mounts and obviously I will need to get one as well.

This information will help me greatly when it comes to selecting a good TV mount. I did not even know that TV mounts are so different in regard to size, style, and cost. Very helpful.
